Claudia Andujar: No Lugar do Outro is the first major retrospective of her work dedicated to the period extending from the photographer’s arrival in São Paulo in 1955 to her first trips to the Amazon in the early 1970s. The exhibition presents Andujar’s extensive work from the 1960s and 1970s, prior to her involvement with the Yanomami people. The exhibition is divided into four sections distributed across the five rooms of the Instituto Moreira Salles house in Rio de Janeiro.

The Famílias Brasileiras section presents the daily life of four families from different contexts between 1962 and 1964. These will be displayed in the Reading Room in exhibition cases and illuminated niches, with small-format photos that construct a narrative. The second section consists of series from reports developed by the artist for Revista Realidade over five years in the early 1970s. In this room, the images will be presented in large format, creating an immersive environment. The third section features three experimental series developed in São Paulo, stemming from her interest in the city and the human figure. The fourth and final section of the exhibition contains nature photographs taken during the artist’s first trips to the Amazon region in the early 1970s, along the Jari, Negro, and Solimões rivers. For this section, lightweight tubular structures were created to allow the images to be displayed freely in space, in a sequence of display planes. This setup makes it possible to view groups of images simultaneously, in addition to individual works.
